Ok, we know it’s June but… We need to talk about Christmas!
As you may know, Finnbar’s Force, with the kind assistance of the residents of Park Green and the surrounding area, put on a spectacular Christmas Lights Show each year…
Although we are supported by different volunteers each year, there is a heavy burden on a very small group of us who organise, plan and coordinate everything involved, from putting the lights up to taking them down again a few months later, not to mention making sure that they are all in good working order and all switch on at the right times!
It is no mean feat and I’m afraid to say that some of us (Alan!) are not getting any younger (80 next year!!) and those of us that work have to devote a considerable amount of our spare time to make sure that the display you see each year is the best it can be…

We have enjoyed seeing the community come together to enjoy the lights and we are grateful for all the support we have received, especially after the wishing well was broken into last December and the donations stolen. The way you all rallied round afterwards was honestly overwhelming.
However we have to acknowledge that, as much as we’d love for the display to go on forever, we probably can’t keep it going as volunteers alone and as the charity already invests considerable resources to keep the display going too, realistically we can’t give much more.
So this year we will be making sure that the Finnbar’s Christmas Lights Display is the best ever with more exciting events going on around them than ever before! And we would love for you to get involved with making this a truly brilliant Hethersett-wide community event!
But the truth is, this could be the last Finnbar’s Christmas Lights as we know it…
However, it doesn’t have to be the end of the road and we would love to see Hethersett keep its place firmly on the map as the best community Christmas lights display in the country!
Firstly, starting this year, we would love for the whole village to become part of the display, create their own displays as part of a huge “Hethersett Village of Lights”, with Finnbar’s very own lights at the centre.
Second, if we can find enough people willing to volunteer and become part of the team that plans and coordinates the light display each year, with our input and help but taking on some of the responsibility to ensure that we keep this community lights display going into the future, we would love to hear from you!
We’re holding a meeting:
📅 Monday 13th July, 7.30pm
📍 The Queens Head, Hethersett
Please register your interest using the form (link below 👇) if you are able to attend the meeting and / or are interested in either developing a display in your own area of Hethersett or becoming part of the team to help deliver a central display into the future.
Let’s keep Hethersett on the map. We can’t do it without you.
